Endorsement

From time to time I am given the privilege of reading a manuscript before publication. Recently I received The Great Exchange, written by Jerry Bridges and Bob Bevington, to be published by Crossway Books. An update and expansion of a work published in 1870 by George Smeaton, this book is an exposition of the doctrine of the atonement of Jesus Christ.

Few books are as detailed, as accurate and as necessary as this one. In the current theological climate, where there is debate concerning the very essence of the Gospel and where serious questions are raised about the need for atonement, this work stands as a classic formulation of the biblical position. Bridges and Bevington are to be commended for having produced a popular edition of a work that brings both insight and understanding to the central issue of the Christian faith. The necessity of the atonement, the centrality of the double imputation of Christ, the mystery of the two natures of Christ and the accomplishment of the Savior are all included in this volume.

I wish every Christian would read this book and use it as a devotional aid, as it exalts the person and work of Jesus Christ and calls us to a deeper reverence and more profound worship of our Savior.
